Walking with the Cousins - We Love Aunt Jenna

Dear William,

Today Mommy took you on a walk in Creve Couer Park with Aunt Kristen, Cora and Avery. You pretty much slept the whole time. Mommy had fun talking with Aunt Kristen and we both enjoyed the walk. Before the walked, we took a picture of you, Cora and Avery and emailed it to Aunt Jenna, because she had a treatment today and "We love Aunt Jenna."

Life Lately

Dear William,

You have done so many cute things lately.  You are getting more and more vocal.  Daddy can make you coo and babble very loud.  You have even chuckled at Mommy a few times.  You have really started to kick your feet and flap your arms, and when we prop you up you like to bounce up and down.  You especially love laying on the changing table.  Mommy and Daddy get you smiling and cooing every time we put you there, even if you are upset.  You are real joy.

You have a onesie that says "Man of Your Dreams."  Mommy and Daddy think it is very cute.  Here are some pictures:

Another thing Mommy and Daddy do is lay on the couch with you on our chest for "tummy to tummy time."  You fell asleep on Daddy the other day, it was so cute!

The other day Mommy saw you grab a monkey hanging off the dome of your play mat.  Mommy and Daddy think it was an accident, but we are excited none-the-less.

Daddy has set up a savings account for us to start saving for your college.  Mommy and Daddy are setting aside money every month to add to the account, and we will put any money you get for gifts into the account.  You are going to be one smart kid!

Lastly, today Mommy took you to the mall for the first time.  We went to get you a Halloween costume and Shelley and Grace met us there.  We found you a costume at Old Navy and it is very cute.  Mommy also got you a couple hats.  The highlight, or funniest part, of the trip was that Mommy kept bumping the stroller into EVERYTHING!  At one point, Mommy ran right smack into a pole!  You pretty much slept through it all, but Mommy could definitely improve on her stroller driving skills.

Formula Recall

Dear William,

Mommy and Daddy had put you on Similac brand formula when Mommy had to stop nursing you.  It took your tummy about a week to really get back to normal, and then another week after that for you to get back to your long sleeps (8-9 hours!) at night.  Well, no sooner were things back to normal then all the powdered Similac formula got recalled because of a bug infestation at the plant!  Mommy and Daddy were not happy at the possibility of bugs in your food, so we had to switch your formula.  We have switched you to Enfamil, at the doctors reccomendation.  You've been on 100% Enfamil for two days and you had a great day today.  You were pretty fussy Saturday and Sunday, but I think you have already adjusted.  You didn't sleep as long as normal last night, only 5 hours at a time, but Mommy and Daddy are hoping you get back to long sleeps very soon!

Mommy and Daddy love you very much!

Mommy and Daddy

Will and Grace

Dear William,

Mommy's good friend Shelley was pregnant at the same time as mommy and had the same due date.  Shelley gave birth to baby Grace the day after you were born, August 4.  We have gotten together several times since you and Grace were born, mostly to walk, or just talk.  Here are a couple pictures of you and Grace together.  Shelley and Mommy joke that you are going to be boyfriend and girlfriend when you grow up!

It's Another Girl Cousin!

Dear William,

Uncle Rett and Aunt Jenna have announced that they are expecting a little girl!  Mommy and Daddy are so excited for Uncle Rett and Aunt Jenna.  They are going to be great parents.  They are having a tough time right now because Aunt Jenna has breast cancer, but she is doing well with her treatments and cousin Baby Girl Oesch is doing great.  Your Aunt Jenna is one amazing lady!  You help cheer Aunt Jenna up, so we are going to try to see her next week.

Dinner with Aunt Chris and Uncle Ken

Dear William,

Yesterday Papa, YaYa and Great Aunt Chris and Uncle Ken came over for dinner.  YaYa made a pot roast that was very yummy!  You were so adoreable while everyone was here.  You smiled and coo'ed the whole time.  You sat on YaYa's lap for a long time making faces.  You were the life of the party!

Avery's Baptism

Dear William,

Sunday we went to your cousin Avery's baptism.  Uncle Rett and Aunt Jenna are Avery's Godparents.  It was fun to get you out to see all our family and have you around your cousins.  Mommy had you wear a white collared shirt and a yellow sweater vest with khakis.  Uncle Dave and Uncle Rett said you needed argyle socks and outfit would have been complete!  We had fun at Uncle Dave and Aunt Kristen's house.  You were smiling and happy, although you did get a little tired, so mommy took you to rock in Cora's room for a while.  Here are a few pictures from the day:

Cute Things You've Done Lately

Dear William,

We had the best day ever yesterday.  You were smiling and happy and cooing all day long.  Mommy and Daddy love you more and more each day.  You are getting so fun!!!  Here are some cute things you've done lately:

1. You've started to notice our dog Phoebe.  You look at here sometimes, but it is clear on your face that you just don't know what to think yet!  Mommy and Daddy keep telling Phoebe that you guys will be best friends, especially once Daddy teaches you how to throw...with your left hand of course! ;-)

2. When you get hungry, sometimes you get a little fussy.  Mommy doesn't mind this kind of fussiness because I know what you want and can feed you and make you feel better.  When you get fussy, mommy makes your bottle and goes to the rocker to feed you.  You make the cutest face when I start to put the bib on you.  Immediately once you realize mommy is putting the bib on, your eyes light up and you get very excited and start cooing and swinging your arms.  You definitely like to eat and have learned all the cues that lead up to eating!  SO CUTE!

3.  You have really started smiling, and Mommy and Daddy are able to coax a smile almost on command.  You think it is particularly funny when we touch your nose.  Mommy has started to call your nose the "smile button!"

4. You have started cuddling up to Mommy and Daddy.  When you are in our arms you will push into us for a maximum cuddle.  It melts Mommy's heart!  Mommy particularly likes it when you snuggle into my shoulder and rest your head.

5.  Yesterday evening you were looking at Mommy and Mommy walked across the room.  You tracked me with your eyes, then turned your head, then your whole body so that I wouldn't leave your sight!  You sure have my number!

6.  You usually sneeze three times in a row, which is the same way Mommy sneezes.  However, yesterday you sneezed once and then let out a really loud, really long, sigh, "oohhhhhh."  It was SOO cute!

7.  You have also really started to enjoy time in your bouncy seat.  You love to look at the ceiling fan over the kitchen table!

8. Mommy and Daddy are so excited that you have been sleeping well again.  Last night, you actually slept for 8 hours!!! Yippee!

9.  The last thing is just an honorable mention because you actually STOPPED doing something.  You won't roll over anymore!  You did it three times, Mommy was very excited, and you never did it again!  I guess you decided tummy time was okay after all.

Mommy and Daddy love you!

Cookie Monster!

Dear William,

Last night, Mommy and Daddy gave you your first real bath in the baby bathtub, now that your umbilical stump has FINALLY fallen off.  You did amazing, and didn't cry at all.  Not even a whimper.  In honor of the occasion of your first real bath, Daddy wanted to use your Cookie Monster towel.  We sang the "C is for cookie" song a lot during your bath and when you were drying off!  Yesterday was also Mommy and Daddy's anniversary, and giving you such a fun bath made our day!

Mommy and Daddy's First Night Out

Dear William,

On Monday, Mommy and Daddy went to the Cardinals vs. Cubs game and left you with Papa and YaYa for a few hours.  We all did great.  You didn't fuss for Papa and Yaya at all, even though you fussed for Mommy ALL afternoon!  Mommy and Daddy didn't worry about you at all, because you love Papa and Yaya and calm down easily for either one.  Mommy and Daddy had fun at the game.  The cubs won, so Daddy was happy.  Before we left, we took some family pictures in the front yard.  Mommy dressed you in a Cubs onesie to Daddy's delight and Papa's dismay!

YaYa took several pictures of you sitting on Papa's lap.  Look how alert and happy you are!

When we got home, you were sleeping soundly in your bed!  Mommy and Daddy love you very much!

Visitors from Ohio, Meeting Your Godmother

Dear William,

Last weekend Daddy's Uncle Phil, Aunt Sue and cousins Allison, Jess and Julia came to town from Ohio because Julia had a volleyball tournament with her college at Washington University.  On Saturday evening they came by to meet you.  Mommy went to Mass with the Ohio family and you stayed home napping with Daddy.  After Mass we came back home and Daddy barbecued chicken and burgers for us to eat.  You were a bit fussy, but Phil, Sue, Allison, Jess and Julia loved you.  (You are the cutest baby in the world, after all!)

Jessica is going to be your Godmother when you get baptized on November 14th.  Mommy and Daddy are very excited for Jess to be your Godmother!  We know you are going to love her as you grow!  Your Uncle Dave is going to be your Godfather.  It is funny because both Jess and Uncle Dave are accountants.  Jess says you must be destined to be accountant.  Both Mommy and Daddy are engineers, though, so you might be an engineer instead!  (Daddy is really pushing that you be a left-handed relief pitcher for a pro baseball team, so we will see.)

Jessica made you a baby blanket that is very soft and has the same animals on it that are in your nursery!  It is perfect.

Lullaby Time

Dear William,

The favorite part of mommy's days with you is when mommy puts you to sleep at night.  Mommy gives you your bottle and rocks you to sleep while we listen to mommy's favorite (yours too, we hope!) lullaby CD, called Loving Lullabies.  It is a collection of Christian instramentals, that is very relaxing.  Mommy loves it because she knows the lyrics to most of the songs and can sing along quietly.  The CD has songs such as, "Be Still and Know," "Whisper a Prayer," "What a Friend we Have in Jesus" and "All Through the Night."  The CD is also the perfect length, because it is about 45 minutes long.  It takes you about 20 minutes to drink your bottle and we usually keep you somewhat upright for about 20 minutes after you eat so the you don't spit up.  We hope you grow up to know and love the songs on the CD!

Roll Over!

Dear William,

Another thing you have done lately that is unbelievable is ROLL OVER! You did it three times, rolling from your tummy to your back.  Mommy thinks you just really didn't like tummy time at first.  You rolled over the 2nd and 3rd days we did tummy time, and haven't done it since.  We don't know if we were ready for you to roll over so soon, so maybe it is for the best that seem to have forgotten how to do it...

I See Your Belly Button!

Dear William,

This may be a quick post, because you just woke up and you may be hungry!

So much has happened this week!  You are now 95% formula fed, which was a difficult transition emotionally for mom and physically for you.  You did not sleep well for about 4 days and nights, which meant Mommy and Daddy, and you, have been exhausted.  Plus, your tummy has had difficulty adjusting to the different digestion of the formula, so you have been very fussy.  Last night, your daddy (my hero) insisted that he was going to take care of you all night.  He slept on the couch and confiscated mommy's monitor, to ensure that I would sleep and not worry, although not worrying was unrealistic.  I worried a bit early in the night, but finally fell asleep about 11:15.  I slept until 8a.m.  Plus, when I woke up, I saw that you slept 6 hours in a row last night and were not up every 2 hours, which has been the norm of late!  Perhaps the storm has passed?  I hope so, I hated seeing you struggling with the gas pains or whatever it was.  This morning you were happier than you have been and VERY talkative.  You are also very tired today and have been taking lots of naps.  I'm sure you need them after such little sleep for several days!

I am still somewhat sad that nursing did not work out for us, but in the end you are healthy and growing and that is all that matters.  Formula feeding will be a lot easier on us on, especially when mommy goes back to work.

Onto other exciting accomplishments...This morning Daddy had to remove your infant insert in the car seat because you weigh 11 pounds.  *(We went to the pediatrician yesterday to make sure your fussiness was only due to the formula transition and you weighed in at 10 pounds 15 oz!)

You have been diagnosed with "baby acne," which are small red bumps that are all over your face, neck and head.  They even go down onto your chest.  The pediatrician says it will go away on its own, in a couple months.  He says if we want your face clear for pictures we can use Nuetrogena on the spot treatment and that the bumps will go away for a day and then come right back.  Grandma says the spots are called "Christning Bumps."

Daddy and Mommy (and you) met with Lori Conners from Pattonville Parents as Teachers yesterday.  She is very nice and is going to give us information to make sure you are developing on track.  Good news, right now your motor skills are WAY ahead of schedule.  You have very above average control of your head and neck, your hands are unfisted most of the time, and you are already tracking with your eyes.  We are so proud.  Lori will be visiting every couple months as you grow, and we look forward to the things she'll teach us all.  Oh yeah, while she was here, you projectile vomited all over mommy's leg and the lazy boy in the family room.  You haven't done that since you were about 3 weeks old, when you hit dad in the chest (from his lap, with your head at his knees) twice in a row!

Lastly, YOUR BELLY BUTTON FINALLY CAME OFF!  Yeah, Mommy and Daddy can't wait to give you a real bath!

Well, you are telling me you are hungry, so I have to stop writing.  I can't believe you held off long enough for me to type all this!

Mommy and Daddy love you!

Special Moments

Dear William,

Mommy loves to cuddle with you and hold you.  Many times you are in my arms and do something cute, so I just take my cell phone out and take a picture.  Here are a few recent cell phone pictures.
