Dear William,
Yesterday Mommy took you to a pizza lunch party to celebrate the close of The New I-64 contract. Mommy was very excited to attend because it is a huge accomplishment that the highway is done and the paperwork is pretty much complete. Plus, she was really looking forward to seeing her old I-64 work friends. Well, yesterday morning you were very fussy, and Mommy could not get you to take a nap. Mommy was not optimistic that things were going to go well at the pizza party. Mommy had to hurry to get ready, but we made it on time. (Mommy had you wear your outfit with the back-hoe on it that Grandma gave you. It was perfect for a MoDOT event!)
You were fairly content for about the first 20 minutes, then you had the biggest melt down you have had yet. You screamed for about five minutes and Mommy could not get to calm down. Mommy knew you just needed a nap, but you would not calm down to fall asleep. Mommy finally decided we just needed to leave, but was dreading the walk through the lobby at the Transportation Management Center because it is a huge atrium and there would have been an echo that the whole building would have heard. As a last resort Mommy decided to swaddle you, and low and behold you were silent and sleeping in about 30 seconds. Thank goodness! We were able to stay for the rest of the event and celebrate the project success with everyone. Mommy thinks that the crazy poodle Phoebe helped here prepare for the pressure of an embarrassing parental situation as she has well acquainted Mommy and Daddy with parental mortification! Thank you, Phoebe!
Because you were so fussy, and also because a couple of my design friends were not in the office yesterday, we just went home after the I-64 party and decided to go visit Mommy's current work friends in design today. You did much better today. Lots of smiles. Minimal fussiness. You were definitely much more yourself today. You still didn't want anyone else to hold you, but that's okay. Mommy was so proud to show you off to everyone. You are Mommy's pride and joy!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy
