Adjustments

Dear William,

Well, it has been a week and half since Mommy went back to work.  You are adjusting just fine to day care and are your usual happy self in the mornings and evenings.  Mommy is very tired, and goes to bed pretty much when you do, at about 7:30 p.m.  Mommy misses spending every minute during the day with you!

Your first day of day care went fairly well.  Mommy got all of her crying out of the way the Friday before, when she packed your things and put your name on all your stuff.  Daddy came with Mommy on your first day so we could both drop you off.  Mommy suspects he really just wanted to make sure Mommy actually left you there and went to work... not really, he just wanted to offer moral support for Mommy, because it was very hard to leave you! Mommy surprised herself by not crying at all.  Her eyes watered as she pulled into work, but other than that the day went pretty well.  Mommy had 879 work emails!  When Mommy came to pick you up, you were fussing, so she picked you up and you screamed and cried harder than Mommy has ever seen!  Then Mommy started crying and Katrina, the afternoon teacher, and Gwen were patting Mommy's back.  Mommy would have been embarrassed, except she's sure that has happened before.  That, and she was too tired to be embarrassed.  You woke Mommy up at 3:00 a.m. to eat that morning, even though you haven't woken up in the middle of the night in a long time!  Mommy and Daddy think you just knew a change was coming.  Anyway, by the time Mommy got you home, you were happy again and when Daddy walked in after work you gave him the biggest smile!  Mommy was hoping she'd see that smile right when she walked in to get you at day care, but the smile for Daddy was a close second. After the first day, you have smiled at Mommy when she picks you up every day.  It makes Mommy's day!

We are all still adjusting, especially since Daddy had to travel for work last week, but things are going well so far.  We're just tired.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
