Our New Bedtime Routine

Dear William,

Mommy and Daddy are still working on getting you back in your crib all the way.  Some nights, you go right to sleep and stay asleep...some nights you wake up every 20 or 30 minutes until around ten. You have been sleeping all night though, so things are improving.

Mommy and Daddy have started a new bedtime routine to help you learn when it is sleep time.  First, you get your last bottle of the day, around 6pm.  Then Mommy gives you a bath.  Daddy helps Mommy get you out of the tub, which we call "catching" William.  Daddy holds out your towels and Mommy places you in the towel.  Here are some pictures of you wrapped up in your bath towels:

After your bath, Mommy puts lotion on you to help with your eczema, then puts you in your PJs.  Then Daddy (sometimes Mommy) reads to you and you fall right asleep.  Daddy reads the same books every night: Hello Animals, The Fire Engine Book and the Pokey Little Puppy.  Mommy and Daddy think you don't really like The Pokey Little Puppy because by the time we get to that book, you usually are whiny and want to go to sleep.  After we read the books, you are ready for sleep and go right in your crib.  We wait for you to fall asleep and then leave the room.  So far the new routine is working fairly well.  Some nights you still fight sleep and cry a bit before falling asleep on your own, but you are figuring it out.

We love you so very much!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
